The total picked as of
last night was about 28 million kilos of an estimated 60 million. The vineyards of the interior have
reached nearly 90% with an average potential alcohol reading of 11.63ᴼ and the
main players will have finished by the end of next week. Harvesting is now
under way in Sanlúcar and Trebujena while Puerto Real, Rota and Lebrija are yet
to start.

Today marks the start
of the Fiesta de la Vendimia and there will be all sorts of activities. There will be various exhibitions
at the Sala Pescadería Vieja and the Tabanco El Pasaje as well as doors open
days at Bodegas Luís Pérez and tours of the vineyards. There will be doors open
days at Bodegas Fundador and the Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre (Spanish Riding
School) is offering a show of andalucian horses dancing while Bodega Viña La
Constancia is offering a blind sensorial tasting and vineyard visit as well as
a theatrical event on the origins of Jerez starring an actor playing the
ancient Greek geographer Strabo. Rutasiete is doing a sunset visit to the vineyards
in a 4x4 and Genatur is offering a vineyard tour and tasting. Rom 1-3 September
there is also flamenco in the form of a Fiesta de la Buleria. This is only some
of what is happening.
