I would love to hear from fellow Sherry aficionados and any Bodegas who wish to send information or press releases. While I try my best to check all information published, if you spot a mistake, please let me know, and I will correct it.
Have spent hours enjoying your blog and reading about sherries, and reposting some on Fb...

I see a number of interesting sherries are for sale at Winemonger where you work in Edinburgh. Is there any way of buying without visiting Edinburgh?
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a bottle of William & Humbert Dry Sack Sherry at an estate sale. I can't tell anything about it as the label is 95% gone but on the bottom of the bottle it reads (William & Humbert; Jerz; 0.751; 13 80) It was imported by Julius Sons & Co.Inc, New Hyde Park, N.Y. On the shoulder of the bottle in a 6 sided circle it reads W & H 1877. On the other side it reads William & Humbert.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Is this a vintage bottle of Sherry? Is there any value to it?
I paid $1.00 for the bottle.......should I just open it and drink it or ..........?

I love Jose De Soto sherry vinegar for my salads and my cooking but I can't find it anywhere. I have the yellow bottle with the horse and rider and all the award. That bottle is empty now. Have you stopped making it? What a pity if you have. I love it.

Hi, I have a bottle of Jose pemartin amontillado sherry 1869. Is there any value in that? It is unopened and has been laying down for a very long time. I'd love to any opinions on this, please.
ReplyDeleteI have a bottle of medium dry sherry ( 1980's ) which was bottled for the House of Commons by Bodegas, jerez
ReplyDeleteof what value would it have?
Just discovered your website.
ReplyDeleteFell in love with sherry in Cordoba afew years ago and have been exploring enthusiatically since. Discovered Dios Baco in Jerez a couple of years ago and niw totally hooked. Aswell as their Sherry range they tempted me with Luis Enrique Brandy, never been a brandy fan til then. Nw steadily converting the people of Carnoustie, Scotland to the pleasures og both. I now hzve a point of reference. A few of my friends are asking for a sherry tasting evening. We already have a regular Malt Whisky and Gin night. Will be checking your site before proceeding.
I found a bottle of Pemartin Royal Cream Sherry 50 Years Old Solera established 1905 produced and bottled by Jose Pemartin y Cia (plus a large cursive letter I can't make out followed by a period) and then a cursive A. Then the label says 'FOUNDED IN 1810 JEREZ DE LA Frontera (SPAIN) IMPORTED BY St. Tomas Liquor Co. Inc. St. Thomas V.I.' The bottle is gold mirror glass with a red and gold (silk?)tassel attached to the wax near the top. I don't drink. Could you give me some idea of its value. Thank you for your time.

ReplyDeleteWhat exactly to I have?
My grandfather William Hastings Hughes (1833-1907, long generations here) exported sherry from Puerto de Santa Maria in the 1850s, being a partner in Gorman & Co. (Gorman Hamilton & Thorby. I can only find one reference to the sherries he was associated with, from restaurant menus of New York, where he moved in the 1870s, "La Duquesa" and "La Reina." Are they still available, and do you know of other sherries he was associated with. Thanks, Arthur Hughes, New York City. Better email: arthurhughes@verizon.net
