The European Association of Economy and Competitivity has awarded a
Gold Medal for Merit in Industry to Bodegas El Maestro Sierra for their “great
work in the wine sector, maintenance of high quality standards, customer
satisfaction, their commitment to excellence and the years they have been doing
it, among other parameters”.
María del Carmen Borrego Plá,
speaking on behalf of herself, her mother Pilar Plá and the team at the bodega, said
they were delighted to receive the medal which “represents a seal of quality
and a stimulus to continue working to our business philosophy which is to
combine tradition and innovation”. The medal is awarded to recognise, reward
and celebrate the success of businesses with an exemplary career path at
national and/or European level with practices and initiatives which exemplify
the spirit of business, and is open to all professionals in all sectors in the
EU who fulfil the these requirements.
Doña Pilar has owned the bodega for
over 40 years and is virtually retired so her historian daughter Doña María
del Carmen runs things now ably assisted by oenologist Ana Cabestrero, making
this the only Sherry bodega run by women.
