Table Wine Bodegas: Bodegas Ibargüen SL

Ibargüen is a small family business run by Javier Sánchez de Ibargüen which produces red wine in beautiful countryside on the fringes of the natural parks of Grazalema and Alcornocales, just east of Arcos. Based at the Finca las Posadas, the bodega is surrounded by its vineyards which are planted on very chalky soils with some clay not unlike albariza which allow drainage and store water during drought. Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated organically and harvested by hand.

Grapes are destemmed and the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks before pressing and malo-lactic and they are then aged in new or nearly new French and American oak barrels. After oak ageing, all wines except the Joven are further aged in bottle for a few months. The oenologist is Juan Cordero, and for lack of facilities, the winemaking and bottling is carried out at neighbouring Regantío Viejo.

All the wines belong to the IGP Vino de la Tierra Cádiz and the range consists of:
Tinto Joven; 100% Tempranillo, unaged young and fruity
Tinto Roble; Syrah and Cabernet aged in French and American barrels for 12 months
Tinto Crianza; Syrah and Cabernet aged in American oak for 20 months
Syrah; 100% Syrah aged in French and American barrels for 6 months
Betanu; 100% Cabernet aged in dual stave oak barrels for 30 months, only made in best years
