Consejo president
Beltrán Domecq led a tasting yesterday to unveil the mystery of Palo Cortado on the last day of Vinoble. The
halo of mystery surrounding this enigmatic wine has only added to its appeal,
and it was one of the most requested wines at Vinoble, thanks in no small part
to the film “El Misterio del Palo Cortado”.
Beltrán said that it was usually a wine with no crianza biológica, or if
it had any, it was minimal, while he pointed out that blending Amontillado with
Oloroso is illegal.
The wines tasted were a mosto (young
unfortified Palomino), a sobretablas around a year old and showing a leaning
toward Palo Cortado, a 4 year old Añada and a 7 year old Añada both from
Fundador, and the rest were over 10 years old: Leonor (González Byass), Marqués
de Rodíl (Emilio Hidalgo), Antique (Fernando de Castilla), Dos Cortados
(Williams & Humbert), PC VORS (Tradición), Capuchino VORS (Osborne) and PC
Medium VORS (Harveys).
Leading singers Ismael Jordi (Tenor), José Mercé (Flamenco) and Ainhoa
Arteta (Soprano)
are performing at the 2016 Tio Pepe Festival which has been extended this year
to three days as it has become a highlight of cultural activity in Jerez during
the summer. The singers will perform at various places in the bodegas and
gardens of González Byass, and there will be gastronomy and Sherry available. The
dates are 11-13 August and it essential to book - on www.tiopepefestival.com. Tickets are
