Jerez has passed on the European City of Wine
baton to Reguengos de Monsaraz in Portugal which will be the 2015 European City of Wine
(ECW). Reguengos is in the well-known quality wine region of Alentejo. The
mayor of Jerez, Maria José Garcia Pelayo, congratulated the Portuguese and said
that the ECW had done a lot of good for Jerez, remarking that there was a
definite “before and after” and Jerez was the second most talked about wine in
the media.

Jerez is World Capital of Motorcycling. The Federation Internationale de
Motocyclisme (FIM) has declared Jerez its world capital. The General Assembly
followed by a ceremony was held in Jerez over the weekend to celebrate, and the
city is more than delighted, as the circuit attracts huge numbers of people,
filling hotels and restaurants and drinking Sherry. The city has a fine racing
circuit, and many important races are held there. Not only motorcycle races, but cars as well,
and a lot of pre-season testing - already taking place for next season.
